I'm not sure if 'cheesy' is the right word, but it's definitely more obvious comedy than in the UK!.
Bear in mind that the only American comedy we really get over here are the sitcoms like Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond, which are silly and have canned laughter!.
We have stuff like that over here; things like Catherine Tate and other character-based sketch shows!.
Classic British comedy is REALLY cheesy!. Shows like Fawlty Towers, Only Fools and Horses, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em!.
There has become more of a market for more subtle and weird comedy, with the Mighty Boosh becoming popular, and I'm sure this is the same as in America!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
