can someone fill me in on the whole drama surrounding the undercover assignment tony had in season 4/5!? i'm more than a little lost because i just started watching like 2 weeks ago when there was a marathon and those were older!.!.!. i'm rambling!.!.!. anyway anything you can tell me about that and perhaps 'interesting' facts on the character's pasts would be well appreciatedWww@Enter-QA@Com

I started to answer this earlier but realized how much I don't actually remember - but since no one else has yet I'll tell you what what I can
Tony was doing top secret "side" work for Director Jenny Shepard unbeknown to the rest of the team as well as Gibbs (but of course, nothing is completely unbeknown to Gibbs)!.
Some of that undercover work may have had something to do with Shepards personal cause of finding her father - which turned out to be just some people trying to convince her he was still alive I think (for some reason - I forget)
Tony did have an assignment to get close to the daughter of an arms dealer to get intel on him - it seemed that he really loved her but he told her at the end that it "was just the job" - but I think that was just his way of letting her off easy (so she could just hate him and not be confused)

NCIS is actually a spinoff from JAG - Caitlin "Kate" Todd (the first woman that was part of the team) use to work for the Secret Service (president detail) and her and Gibbs met in the JAG "crossover" pilot after a terrorist group tried to assassinate the president on AF-One!. (so NCIS was born - yay!)
Gibbs background:
Gibbs, of course, is an ex-Marine (Ret!. Special Forces!?) - he was in some kind of car accident with is (first!?) wife and child and was in a coma for awhile as a result!.
He was also an agent of NCIS along with Jenny Shepard (they have a "history") under their old director - that old director appeared in a few of the last episodes and he currently lives in some remote Mexican(!?) beach town but comes back and helps them as a civilian!.
(That old director was (as a friend) working with Director Shepard when she got killed - when she got killed it had something to do with her father and some evidence he had for "insurance")

back to Caitlin "Kate" Todd - the original woman of the team - she was killed and Ziva David took her place on the team
Ziva is actually just a liason officer from the Israeli Intelligence Agency - after Director Jenny Shepard was killed at the end of last season the new director informed the team that the position was terminated - he actually said that he was "breaking up the team" and even "Probie" (Tim McGee) was going to the Cybercrime Division!.
so much is unknown at the start of next season as far as what characters will be in it - the show might be expanded more or a couple of the actors (Cote de Pablo and Sean Murray) may be moving on!.
(I'm kind of under the impression that Cote de Pablo may be completely leaving but Sean Murray will still play a part!.)
I sure hope Ziva doesn't actually leave though - as far as I'm concerned she's a "Jewish Warrior Goddess" and the show just won't be the same without her (I liked her so much better than Kate!)
(btw: Tony and Ziva flirted much more than him and Kate did - I guess he digs her too - lol)
