Answers:
Well, all soap operas in America (except Guiding Light) use a standard mounted camera technique to film!.!.!.!. This means the camera is mounted to a crane or stand and does not move around!. Ususally their is no more than one cameras in a studio at a time during a scene, and the scene is shot several times from different angles!. Sitcoms have traditionally used three cameras meaning that they only have to shoot a scene one or two times because the different angels will be caught by the different cameras!.

However in recent months Guiding Light has switched to a handheld camera, which is a camera not mounted to a crane or a mount and instead held in somebody's hand, like a home video camera!. It produces a more home video look and often ends up with video that is shaky or moving!. "All My Children" used this for awhile in 2006 but it was very unpopular and they have since switched back to a standard mounted camera!.

GL's changed to this method as a cost saving mesaure, but so far it has proven very unpopular with viewers and many cast members!. also, it is questionable how much has acutally been saved by doing so, because rumors have been RAMPANT in the last few months that Executive Producer Ellen Wheeler has not made any progress in saving money and is in fact over budget by a lot!.

PS!. just a small correction: while it is true that most TV shows used to use tape, that isn't so anymore, now most shows have switched to film because it lasts longer and produces a better quality!. The switch to film was done many years ago!.

and usually only sitcoms had three cameras, dramas and soaps ususally use one camera!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

they are using Handheld cameras- it is cheaper than the usual 3 camera on a set and they think it looks edgey and hip- I quit watching GL- it looks/sounds cheap and the storylines are a mess!.
techically they are using Film while most tv shows are made on TapeWww@Enter-QA@Com

They're using hand-held cameras!. Sometimes makes you feel like you've got motion sickness!. Makes me dizzy!. lolWww@Enter-QA@Com

I hate whatever they're using!. It makes me feel like i'm intruding on their lives!. Too real =(Www@Enter-QA@Com
