Very well written show!. Yes, there are a few bad episodes and some mediocre ones (The Calusari, for one), but maybe your friends haven't seen the best:

Well, you have to take into account that the show is a little old- so some of the episodes feel a little dated!. But I think that has more to do with overall style issues (like Scully wearing tight leggings, a huge sweater, and bright white high tops) than with the actual writing!. With the exception of a few episodes, I think the show was very well written!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Chris Carter and company wrote some of the most ground-breaking and innovative stories and scripts in the history of any SciFi series ever!. That stuff you and your friends take for granted now in the SciFi/Fantasy genre was ground-breaking and multi, MULTI award-winning back in the 90's - - unprecedented for Science Fiction!.
It's in the nature of man is to be curious, but this show was INTENSELY on the search for 'the truth'!. That truth that people the world-over feel is 'out there'!. When you have characters DETERMINED to uncover hidden truths - they're bound to make discoveries of many kinds!. Some good, some not so good!. Some evil!. It makes for a good show!.
And the writers on the X-Files did it for 9 seasons, so they must have been doing something right!.

Your friends need a lil education in that department!.!.!.some of the best writers in television wrote for the X-Files (for 9 years and 2 movies)!. I think that speaks for itself!.
