Why are shows Americanized? (Life on Mars)?!

Question: Why are shows Americanized!? (Life on Mars)!?
This might seem like a really ignorant question, but someone mentioned ABC and Life on Mars in the same sentence yesterday - I got all psyched thinking they were showing the original, before realizing they'd remade it!. Don't get me wrong, I love the US version of the Office, and I love the idea of Life on Mars on a US channel, but!.!.!. why do they have to Americanize it!? To get more money out of it!? Are they afraid people wouldn't be able to relate to British characters!?

Haha, please don't laugh at me, I don't know anything about this kind of thing!. :p Plus the American version has no John Simm!. :(Www@Enter-QA@Com

It all comes down to money!. If they broadcast the British version, they have to pay residuals to the British actors and directors and writers etc!. If they create their own version, they pay salaries to their employees, plus they get money for syndication, downloads and DVD sales!.

Doesn't change the fact that the American version usually sucks because they didn't grasp what made the original so good!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

its because America has a bigger and better market!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
