Maybe Chloe knows something about Cane that we don't, like something from his past in Australia that Cane wouldn't want anyone to know!.
She could even be an old girlfriend and once Katherine dies, he'll take his inheritance (supposing Katherine will leave him some since he is her Grandson), or it least he wants everyone to think he is, and they'll run away together with the money!.
