whould i have had to have watched all of the old series or could i jump straight into the new "season 1" of doctor who and jhust watch it from there!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
I never watched Doctor Who when I was growing up!. The first time I ever saw it was when the new series was brought back by Russell T Davies!. Season 1 has Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor and Billie Piper as his companion, Rose Tyler!. I got hooked!.

In season 1, you also meet Rose's mom Jackie Tyler, her dad Pete Tyler (he died when Rose was a baby), Rose's sort-of boyfriend Mickey Smith, and a 51st Century former Time Agent turned con man named Captain Jack Harkness!. At the end of the season 1, the Doctor regenerates and David Tennant was seen very briefly!.

Season 2 stars David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Billie Piper returns as his companion Rose Tyler!. It begins with the 2005 Christmas special "The Christmas Invasion" and continues with 13 episodes!. Season 2 is significant because that's when we first hear of the Torchwood Institute!.

Season 3 begins with the 2006 Christmas special, "Runaway Bride," with Catherine Tate guest starring as Donna Noble, the bride of the title!. Then for the 13 regular episodes of season 3, Freema Agyeman takes the role of medical student Martha Jones!. Martha's mother, brother, and sister are recurring characters, as is the mysterious "Mr!. Saxon!." Captain Jack Harkness returns for 3 episodes at the end of the season, and we learn a lot more about the Torchwood Institute!.

Now we're up to season 4, which began at Christmas 2007 with "Voyage of the Damned"!. The Doctor had no companion in this episode, but pop star Kylie Minogue appeared as guest star!. When the regular season began, Catherine Tate was back as Donna Noble!. If you're in the UK, there are only 3 episodes left to air for this season!. If you're in the US, there are 6 episodes left!. All of the Doctor's companions from the earlier 3 season will be back for the season finale, as will a handful of other characters from these seasons!.

Series 1, 2, and 3 are available to purchase on DVD and can be rented from Blockbuster or Netflix!. Many of the episodes can be watched online!. All of the season 4 episodes that have already aired in the UK are posted at various online sites; a good number of us here in the US watch it online every weekend because we can't stand that extra 3-week wait!

You have a lot of good television ahead of you!. And when you get hooked, come on back and get Golden Anorak to give you his list of the essential episodes from the classic series!. I've begun watching them and am loving it all!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

To be honest you can jump in anywhere and start watching Doctor Who, except in the middle of a two part story or something!.

As a long term fan, I would say it helps to have some knowledge of the old series, especially when characters or villains from the old series turn up in the new series, as they occasionally do!. It's definitely not essential to have watched the old series to enjoy the new one though, and you can get all the information you need without watching the classic series from the Internet!. E!.g!. the official BBC Doctor Who web site's "Beginner's Guide to Doctor Who" and episode guide, e!.t!.c, or the many wikipedia Doctor Who articles!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No you dont need to watch all the old Doctor Whos
Russell T Davies who brought it back was very good at making sure people who would be new to the programme would find it easy to follow because he was such a huge fan!.
All the back story ideas are explained in the dialogue anyway so you won't be lost!.
It's a fantastic series and it comes highly recommended!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Watch it from the beginning as there's little things hidden in each episode which tie them together for the finale!.
Some of these things carry on to the next series too!.
