John was on the list of passengers on flight 815 so if he would have kept his name it'd be known he was on the flight,Because of the fact he didn't come back with the Oceanic 6 he had to change his name so nobody went looking for more survivors!.In otherwords to protect everyone still on the island!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Probably to cover up the fact he was from the island!. He wasn't one of the Oceanic 6, and the Oceanic 6 said that they were the only survivors!. If they used his real name, people would know that there were other survivors and possibly hurt the others on the island!. So by changing his name, no one suspected he was from the island!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
If he revealed his true name, then people would know he was a survivor of Oceanic 815 - and they're not supposed to let anyone know that their plane crashed on land and not in the water!. If he revealed who he truly is, then he would mess up the story that Jack, Kate and the rest made up to "protect" the people on the island!.

beeeecause he aint one of the oceanic 6 so revealing his true identity would mean people might find out hes back n know he was on the flight which means there would be another survivor buuut the others said there was no way there were any other survivors so that would prove there were still people somewhere which may reveal the location of the island which lock didnt want so he lied lolWww@Enter-QA@Com
