Dr!. Phil has a B!.A!., M!.A!. and Ph!.D!. in clinical psychology from North Texas State University!. So he does have the education to be taken seriously!.
Of course, if he was understanding, listened to people's problems, and tried to lead them into solving the problem themselves on his TV show like most psychotherapists do in real life, his show wouldn't last very long!.
Being confrontational and loud with those in the need of mental health care is not a common type of treatment!. It's show business!.
For some reason, a large percentage of TV audiences seem to love seeing other people ridiculed when they've made mistakes in life!. Judge Judy is another perfect example of that!. Jerry Springer!. Etc!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Here's my answer and why I believe it !. Dr!. Phil can be taken seriously , because his shows are not like the Springer shows that are rehearsed beforehand !. Dr!. Phil is not a Dr!. doctor , but has a doctorate from North Texas University !. He always checks out his sources in advance and asks some pretty hard questions for his guests to answer !. There is not fighting on his shows and he tries to help people straighten out their own problems and brings in people by phone and on his show that further can verify what he says to be true !. He even invites the guests back if they do not get finished and many times he offers help if the people will accept it !. He does not demand that people agree with him, only answer his questions seriously !. He does try to help and can definitely be taken seriously !.
