If a person is murdered and left leaning upright against a wall, could he remain!

Question: If a person is murdered and left leaning upright against a wall, could he remain in that position if untouched
I know this question might seem weird as hell, but I'm working on a CSI-type script involving a murder victim found leaning against a wall!. Just wondering if it's possible!. Thanks!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yes!. Crossing Jordan had that in an episode (Season 5, I think)!. Once rigor sets in, that body's not going anywhere!.!.!.

I've read about it happening in criminal procedure books as well!. What happens is called a cadaveric spasm, which can happen in the event of a violent, instantanious death!. The muscles will freeze in the position they were in at the moment of death!. It's like seeing a dead person holding a gun before rigor sets in!.
So yes, a murder victim could be a standing corpse!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Dead bodies are very heavy, hence the term dead weight!. The likelihood of actually being able to stand the body up (bear in mind, he is dead and just wants to slump over and be dead!) is pretty much non-existent!. The body would simply slump!. Even once rigor mortis set in, the body would still be very difficult to stand up!.

Edit: I should also add that just because they do it on TV doesn't mean it can happen that way in real life!. That is why it is on TV, for the entertainment value, not because it is necessarily fact!

-- Edit 2:
Cadaveric spasms are VERY rare, and generally only happen when in motion or physical exercise at the moment of death, so its safe to say that WON'T happen!. I have embalmed thousands of bodies and have only seen 1 such case!. Highly unlikely!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well!.!.!. in cases where someone had been involved in an excessive amount of exercise right before their death, their body went into Rigor-Mortis very quickly!.!.!. this was sometimes the case of warriors slain in battle, a rare few are said to have died standing up and remained so until their muscles relaxed from rigor-mortis I would say it's highly unlikely but I won't say it's impossible!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It seems logical to me!. If the person were propped up so he/she wouldn't fall over there is no reason they couldn't!. And after a certain amount of time rigor would set in, making it even more likely for the corpse to stay upright!.
I hope that helped, but I am by no means versed in this!. Good luck on your script!Www@Enter-QA@Com

yeah, but i doubt someone would die standing up i mean think about it!.!.!.!.!. if you get stabbed or shot or clubbed, chances are you are going to the ground!.!.!.!. but i guess you could because i think the muscles sorta lock upWww@Enter-QA@Com

It might be possible!.
Because rigor mortis would set in after a few hours and if the body wasn't disturbed at all then it is possible!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

probably not, because to lean against something you need muscle to hold u up, but the muscles will be limp when your dead!. so this is not really possible!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

if it was a brutal horrible death involving many spear-like projectiles thru their bod into the wall, than maybeWww@Enter-QA@Com

yeah, and pretty much it should remain untouched for evidenceWww@Enter-QA@Com

Perhaps if rigormortis had set in!? Balanced upright by the killer!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yes, if he's leaning against the wall in the right way!. Head towards the wall would work!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Under VERY specific conditions!. But no, not really!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

possibly while the body is still in rigormortis but after that it will collapse!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

no the body would probably slouch down due to gravity!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yup!.
If he is UNTOUCHEDWww@Enter-QA@Com

If he sets there long enough for rig to set in!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I highly doubt someone would remain leaning!. Watch some videos of people dying online!. Their bodies just go limpWww@Enter-QA@Com
