Buffy/Angel question?!
Question: Buffy/Angel question!?
I'm just getting into Buffy, ten years late =]!. I'm not big on spin-offs, nor do I have a lot of money to spend at the moment, so I'm wondering if I need to watch Angel to more fully understand the BTVS episodes throughout the series, or can I just avoid it altogether!?
I'm aware of the crossovers =/ I hate when shows do that; it messes up the DVD releases lol although I know it's all about the ratings!.

Answers:
You absolutely do NOT need to watch Angel to understand Buffy!. I do, however, highly recommend it!. When you finish season three of Buffy, maybe watch season four and then season one of Angel!. Start alternating!. That way you'll get everything!. Like someone else already mentioned, Angel was a great series!. The fifth and final season of it was just!.!.!.woah!. Amazing!.
also, when you finish with all of that, I highly, HIGHLY suggest you look into the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic books that Dark Horse Comics started publishing!. They are publishing Season 8, and it is one of the best comics I've ever read, hands down!. If you do check it out, make sure you are getting the Season 8 books and not the old series; they are different, and the old one sort of just sucks, unfortunately!.

Angel and Buffy do VERY FEW crossovers!. Most of them happen during the first season of Angel, and even then it's like maybe 4/5 crossovers throughout the entire series of Angel!. After that, they don't really cross paths at all!.

You definitely don't have to, but the first few seasons (1 and 2, maybe 3) were good!. There's an amazing episode of Angel where Spike is narrating at the very beginning!.!.!.!. it's the funniest thing ever!.
I love Buffy, but I'm not a huge fan of David Boreanez, but still thought Angel was pretty decent (those first few seasons)!. I haven't even seen the rest!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

You do not need to watch Angel!. There were crossovers, but they entailed Buffy characters crossing over on Angel, not the other way around!. So you should be good!.
However, I would highly encourage you to watch Angel!. It was fantastic!. Much darker and more thematic than Buffy!. Faith and Willow's crossover arcs alone were exceptional!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

lol yes i did that a couple of months ago!. sad so say i've been through them all now!.!. but i loved them!.
There were some crossovers but i barley noticed and it pretty much explains it as it goes anyway so you should be fine ^!.^

I wouldn't say you have to, but if ever a spin off worked it was Angel!. I would say that you would be missing out if you didn't watch Angel!. Some story arcs are relevant to both!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

angel first appeared in buffy!. i think the story about how he became a vampire is in buffy!. and spike is a good character in both shows, and his story is in buffy!.
stick with buffy!. i wasn't as into it in season one, but oh, how i love angel and spike! i couldn't live without my sets of buffy and angel!. i know this sounds cheesy but if i have a bad day i just pop one of those in the dvd and walk on the treadmill and i feel lots better!. those shows really take you away from reality for awhile!.
i think watching buffy as much as you can first will help you understand angel !.!.!. but angel is totally worth watching; it's an awesome show!. my fiance are watching it in its entirety now; i just bought the whole series of angel!. totally worth it!. i will probably watch both angel and buffy over and over again!.
oh, and don't feel bad about just now getting into them!. they were on when i was in high school and i never paid much attention to them now!. i am totally addicted to them and am so glad they are out on dvd for us to enjoy!. i rarely watch actual tv now; i have a huge dvd collection and just put one of those on when i come home!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
