Question: In the series lost, why does Mr!. Whitmore badly want Benjamin Linus and is Linus a good or a bad guy!?

I believe Mr!. Widmore was the financial backer of the Hanso Foundation, and that he initially owned the island (possibly from extensive research about the Black Rock!?), and made the Hanso Foundation to try and uncover some of the secrets of the island!.
Linus, however, threw a big wrench into Widmore's system when he did the Purge!. He eliminated Widmore's Dharma Initiative, and helped the Natives recapture the island!. With that, they probably did one of the newfound "moves" that they're capable of, and so it caused Widmore to lose his island!.
What seems to be the big issue at hand is why they seem to have a gentleman's agreement between each other, as if they're just playing a chess game to see who beats who!.

I agree with my lost friend here, the man from talehasse, ben is a good guy !.!.think about it !.!.!.who did ben really kill other than his father, he killed no one!. richard gave orders to gas all those people not ben!. ben is trying to save the island and save lives!. ben did not tell micheal to kill those two girls, ben told his people not to shoot the hostages at the beach but shoot into the ground, ben to his man to go down to the sub and kill the girl not charlie!. ben told charlie not to blow up the boat their were innocent people on board!. yes he is still a lying manipulating bastard!. but hes trying to help right now!. and he does tell the truth !.!.!.every now and then when it suits him!. he is as much a bad guy as sayid is I guess, or jin, or sawyer they all have blood on their hands kate too for that matter!. and didn't you just love sun for standing up to her dad!.!.!.go sun! thats my girl!!Www@Enter-QA@Com
Ben once told Locke!.!.!."He's one of the good guys"!. So he has to be a good guy (lol)!. Ben's intriguing!. At this point I dont know what side to put him on!. Ben has the dirt on Widmore!. Widmore wants the island!. It used to be his but Ben stole it from him (probably because of the purge when Ben was responsible for killing the Dharma Initiative)!.
