Question: LOST: What were they thinking!?!?!?!?!?
I just found out that there going to end this season of Lost with only 14 episodes!!!! when the other ones were like 22 or 23!.!.!. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!! Are they going to end it!? I mean what else can they do after the six are off the Island!? And how can they count the baby as one of the six survivors, he wasn't even born when they crashed!?!?!? and he's barely a person as a baby!.!.!. still, they can't just end it like this! they need to have a FULL 20+ episode season! and another thing, why do they wait 2 weeks for the season finale when they could just show it next week!? why break a good episode streak like that!? They just want to make the fans mad!!! and it worked!!!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Really, I am getting sick of these tiny seasons!. I want a full blown season, like every other show!. And on top of that, it always seems like forever in between seasons!

before this season, the plan was to have 3 more seasons, 16 episodes each!. that would be 48 episodes!.
the writers, et al!.!.!., wanted to have an ending date so they could rap up the show nicely with an ending, instead of having it fade away like so many other shows!.
the writer's strike did put a glitch in the 16 episode season, but i bet the network also had a hand in it!.!.!. i guess they didn't want the seasons to go into the summer,,,, just a guessWww@Enter-QA@Com

Dude!.!.!.they don't film it WEEK to WEEK!. They filmed that like!.!.!.!.!.!.8 months ago!.!.!.then they COULDN'T film the rest of the season!. They have to cut it short this year!.

its probably the writers strike, because thats the same thing tht happened with gossip girl they had to condense all the original episode to 2 episodes

Apparently you have no real perception of what all it takes to actually MAKE an hour-long TV program!. It takes TIME, my friend!.!.!. TIME!.!.!. and MONEY!.!.!.!. Plus, of course they could write!.!.!. nonsense!.!.!.!.in the short amount of time that's passed since the end of the strike!. If you want them to write GOOD STUFF, that also takes!.!.!.!. Plus, the simple fact is, TV networks always cut off showing new episodes in May, because so many people start into their summer vacations after Memorial Day that they don't believe the summertime audience is large enough to support the ad budget they need in order to PAY FOR all those shows!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

They had to stop FILMING during the writers strike!. They had only finished 8 episodes prior to that!. If the strike hadn't ended when it did!.!.!.!. we'd have only had those 8!. We're lucky that they were able to finish as many as they did!. THey tried!. The original plan for this season was 23 episodes!.!.!.!. look it up!. There's interviews all over the place with Cuse and Lindelof about this!. And!.!.!. NO they are not ending it!. They are not only adding the rest of this season to next season!.!.!. but they have already officially announced that they are ending the show after two more seasons (2010)!.
ETA: Forgot to answer your question about what they can do after the six get off the island!. They have to get BACK to the island, of course!. I read an interview in Entertainment Weekly with Matthew Fox!. He basically said that Jackis getting back to that island!. I think Kate probably ends up there with him, and possibly even Hurley!. Have you been paying attention to the flash-forwards!?

They couldn't do more episodes this season because of the writers strike!. At first the were going to make the season 16 episodes and show them back to back without a break but then the writers strike happened!. The writers strike which started on November 5, 2007, and concluded on February 12, 2008!. The writers strike messed EVERY show up and some shows didn't even come back for the rest of the season!.
Before the writers strike started they(people on Lost) managed to flim 8 episodes, once the strike was over they had to go back and most likely re-write a few things to fit in with the time they had left for the season!. I'm sure whatever was not used this season will be carried onto next season!.

And they are only given a certain amount to finish the season before all the summer shows!. And Lost is a pretty big budget show!.
The production budget for the two-hour pilot, very FIRST episode was $12 million, far greater than the cost of most television shows!. How much do you think it takes to everything they do and pay all the people that work on there with all the stuff that goes on in LOST!?!?!?

TV shows are on a schedule and if they writers somehow managed all 16 planned episodes it would completely mess up ABC's schedule!. All the regular season shows have till May, then ABC has summer programming (ie!. reality shows)!. The writers strike is to blame!. It takes several weeks to film an hour of TV!. Even longer to write it and get it approved!. There was no way the writers could of wrote 8 episodes, filmed them, and had them ready to air before May ends!. After May less people watch TV and ratings decline so they aren't putting episides a high cost show after May!. So they just had to cut the season short!.
