maybe soap operas is lighter version of operas!?
Operas usually in dark theatre/hall, and to not opera lovers, operas are quite depressing!.
So, as soap operas also make ppl mad with all that plot (again, for non-soap opera lovers :D), so I guess that's why they called that tv-series as soap operas!
But, seriously, quote from wikipedia:
"A soap opera is an ongoing, episodic work of fiction, usually broadcast on television or radio!. Programs described as soap operas have existed as an entertainment long enough for audiences to recognize them simply by the term soap!. The name soap opera stems from the original dramatic serials broadcast on radio that had soap manufacturers such as Procter and Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive, and Lever Brothers as the show's sponsors!.[1] These early radio serials were broadcast in weekday daytime slots when mostly housewives would be available to listen; thus the shows were aimed at and consumed by a predominantly female audience!."
So, if the show's sponsors are Shell, BP, Esso, we can called them oil operas :DWww@Enter-QA@Com

It's because soaps are on every day and have fairly limited budgets, so they have to cut costs by using cheaper film stock and lighting, and rather straightforward camerawork!. The music has less to do with budgeting and more to do with setting the tone of the scene!. It's kind of exaggeratedly sad or ominous or whatever feeling they're trying to get across because a lot of viewers just flip by while channel surfing, so they need to be able to pull people into a scene and let them know right away what's going on!. It's kind of like a shortcut!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
haha!.!.!.i never watched them perhaps cuz not enough time!.
It's true that it's slow and rather cheap movies!.
They're in fact created for housewives who can watch them before lunch hour or before dinner time when husbands and kids come home!.
Therefore it's called 'soap'!.
The lighting style is called 'scenography',it's played only in the same spot, only the furnitures are changing after one scene to another!.Like a sit!.com!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because many years ago, they were filmed with special camera lenses coated with soap in order to make the picture foggier, therefore hiding the actor's flaws!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
