Back in the day, almost two decades ago when the show was first being produced, Homer WAS the fat guy on the show!. In those early episodes, his overweightness established itself as an important part of his characterization!. (And coined a couple of classic phrases in the process, who doesn't associate Homer with his famous utterance of "Hmmm, dooonuuutsss!.!.!.!.")

In the decade(s) that has passed, Americans have gotten fatter and as The Simpsons is a satirical show, it is bound to reflect the cultural climate of the country as it changes!. I!.e!. As the average American's waistline grew, so did the waistlines of of their satirical Springfield-dwelling counterparts!.

Even though Homer may seem "skinny" in comparison to some of these portlier additions to the Simpson cast, his own stoutness is too ingrained in his characterization and yet still to ripe with comedic possibilities for the writers to dismiss!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

well hes still fat!.!. and the show revolves around that family, so you see him get called fat moreWww@Enter-QA@Com

comic book guy is also called ridiculously obese!. there aren't so many other people!. also the show doesn't get that deep into the other characters!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

My guess is that it became a bit of a running joke!.
A similar one that I never quite understood was Meg on Family Guy (I know, I went there!. I like BOTH shows by the way)!. She's the butt of so many jokes to the point where it's actually not even funny to me anymore!. I GET IT, she's an uggo! (although it's kinda ironic that Lois is considered hot, when Meg is basically a chubby Lois with glasses and a bad wardrobe)

I guess with certain aspects of comedy, status quo bits make good cornerstones!. Or something like that!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
