Talk show:

Phil Donahue

Oldies, not in any order:

The Bob Newhart Show
All in the Family
The Rockford Files
The Streets of San Francisco
Mannix
Cannon
ABC Wednesday Movie of the Week
The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour
The Carol Burnett Show
Dallas

Oh, shoot, I could go on and on.

I don't know if it fits the in the subject but you can't beat Johnny Carson

I still miss Columbo.

And the original Star Trek, although it's become "campy" was ground-breaking and amazing when it first aired. Mission Impossible was pretty cool, too. I had a crush on "Barney". Carol Burnett, All In The Family, Bob Newhart....I could watch all of those again.

But there were stupid shows then too. Remember "Petticoat Junction"? (I can still hum the theme song.) Gad, it was silly.

I can't say that tv is better or worse. I don't watch much TVanymore, so I can't say I'm aware of what's good or bad these days. The plethora of reality shows I think just speaks to it being such a money-saving way of putting on a show. And it appeals to base voyeurism, which is unfortunately good for ratings.

I have seen interesting or thoughtful shows come and go since the 70's, though. I was a Northern Exposure fan, and Lateline, during its brief appearance.
