Question: i missed the whole story line of gideon and sarah on season 2, im now on season three and am a little confused how the story line has got to where gideon has gone off and why...any help would be appreciated on this one. thanx

Oh! You missed such a great episode! Sara was an old friend of Gideon's. A really good friend he had know for a long time. He was to meet her for dinner, and had stopped to pick up flowers for her. Remember the serial killer played who was on last season I think--he was in love with Jane and would leave her presents. At the end of the episode Jane went off with him because she thought she loved him and he loved her? (He was a horrible killer. He injected them with a medicine that paralyzed them, but did not deaden the pain, and then cut out their insides while they were conscious. Yuck! Anyway, Jane left him and came to find Agent Gideon to tell him that he was right, and the man was truly incapable of loving anyone or anything. The serial killer was angry because Jane left him, and his revenge was to kill Gideon's friend. As for Gideon leaving, he had just seen so much horror over the years, and had dealt with so many victims of terrible crimes. But this was the last straw. That someone close to him would be murdered in such a horrible way simply out of revenge against him. He had just had too much of the death and the horrors of it all. I'm wondering if he will return at some point. I really like Gideon.
Basically he couldn't handle it anymore after his friend was killed. He went to his cabin for a while, and then Reid figured out where to find him but when they got there all he had left was a note for Reid (he knew he'd be the one the find it) with a little explanation.
I wish he was still on the show :(
After a series of emotional cases, Gideon began to feel burnt out. The last straw was Hotch's two week suspension, for which Gideon felt responsible. He retreated to his cabin during the suspension and left a letter for Dr. Reid, whom he knew would be the one to come looking for him. When Reid arrived at the cabin, it was empty except for the letter and Gideon's badge and weapon. Gideon was last seen remarking to a Nevada diner waitress that he didn't know where he was going or how he'd know when he got there, leaving the diner and subsequently driving off in his car.
