Can someone tell me what the problem is between Jerry and Newman on Seinfeld?!

I don't think there's one event that set off their animosity. I have the whole series on DVD and have watched every episode, and I can't find a clue as to the root of their problems. I guess it's just that Newman is a douche and is always screwing Jerry over.

I don't know, and I think it's funnier that way.
Introducing him as a cartoonish villian level adversary, without ever telling the audience why, that just adds to the show's overall silliness.
He just doesn't like Newman because Newman is sneaky. I don't know if it was one thing that set Jerry off but I think the two characters just don't get along. Like in real life, some people just don't mesh with each other even when they are connected by that one friend.
the problem is NEWMAN....he's funny for us to watch as the show goes, but imagine if you knew a person like him for real....now do you see.
