David Walliams as Frankie Howerd?!

Question: What a let down. I was expecting a stunning performance similar to the Stephen Poliakoff dramas he did recently.

Instead it seemed to focus entirely on his sexuality. We all knew he was gay - so why did we need the visuals?

I tend to agree. I was really looking forward to this, considering the great performances we've seen previously in this series (especially Phil Davis as Wilfrid Brambell and Jason Isaacs as Harry H Corbett in "The Curse of Steptoe" and Trevor Eve as Hughie Green in "Most Sincerely"), but Walliams didn't give a particularly convincing performance as Frankie Howerd in my view, and the story itself could have been a lot more interesting.

I think your right that it concentrated far too much on the "love affair". There was a lot more to Howerd's life than that, and the whole thing would have been better if that had been played out more as a background aspect. I enjoyed the documentary about Howerd that was on BBC4 afterwards a lot more than "Rather You Than Me".

On the whole "The Curse of Comedy" has been a great drama series, but I think the last one rather let it down.

Damn it i missed that, been meaning to watch it all week, was it BBC ? if so ill watch the i-player

Yeah Just watched it and have to agree. I was expecting more than just his sexuality shown over and over.
I was really looking forward to this and now feel abit let down and not knowing anything more about him than i already knew. Shame.......

I agree, we were disappointed with it too and it was very depressing, wasn't it.

We are fans of Frankie and we thought it wasn't what he would have liked. I can't believe Dennis would do that to him, he oversaw the piece you know. Dennis runs Frankies old house here in Somerset.

I saw the hancock one, which was informative..

I'd like to see the steptoe and son one.. I heard they really hated each other years ago.

the apprentice was on , so didn't watch =)

i guess they will repeat it?

It wasn't very good. They could have focussed more on his comedy and less on his sexuality.
