Star Trek the original series - which episodes are the best to hook my kids?!

Question: Ok, so I want to show my kids, 11 and 8 yrs old why the original Star Trek series was so fun. I watched it in reruns as a kid and I just want to show them one or two of the best episodes so I don't look too lame! Last year they saw the old Batman TV show and loved that too.

Thanks, G.

Kids will like "THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES."

"JOURNEY TO BABEL" with Spock's father

"THE CHANGELING" basis for the first motion picture

"THE MENAGERIE" parts 1 & 2 This two parter was created using the pilot episode (shot with Jeffery Hunter as Cmdr. Pike) and is considered one of the best episodes.

"BALANCE OF TERROR" with the Romulan Bird of Prey

"THE DEVIL IN THE DARK" Spock mind-melds with a Horta

My Favorite:
"THE CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER" with Joan Collins

Charlie X, its all about growing up.

The Trouble with Tribbles, definitely!
Also, A Piece of the Action (1930's gangsters!)
Shore Leave (Alice in Wonderland/White Rabbit)

These are the more lighthearted ones (tho Shore Leave is not that funny)

The one where the kids with special powers freak out
the crew, The Children Shall Lead Them.

The one where the kids shake their fists while
focusing their power on a crew member.

The Trouble with Tribbles
A Piece of the Action
The Children Shall Lead Them
Journey to Babel
And, My favorite… The Squire of Gothos
However, I would definitely recommend mixing in some TNG until their hooked. It more new-looking and is easier for kids to follow. Until their loyal they may not be into TOS

I was this age when Star Trek came on TV. Me and my brother would go over to the neighbors to watch it because they had a color TV! Beyond a doubt the episode that made the biggest impact on me was The Doomsday Machine (Season 2- episode 6). After that, I'd say The Savage Curtain. I loved that rock-monster thing.
