He suffered a stroke quite a long time ago but is doing well now. They wrote it in to the storyline for his character to have had a stroke. Jim bardon the actor may return to eastenders at some point depending on his recovery.
the word is, he will be returning in the summer as he is getting better.

He had a stroke in real life but he is coming back at the end of this year. Hope i helped x x
