As popular as American Idol is,is it really all that it's cracked up to be?!

No it's not. People get all caught up in it and then they forget all about the contestants they voted for. Ruben Studdard sings, I believe, gospel music so you aren't going to hear too much about him unless you are in to that kind of music. I don't think he is going to sell millions of gospel records. I think Kelly Clarkson is still doing o.k. She is still considered the #1 most successful Idol winner followed by Carrie Underwood who is doing extremely well. Taylor hicks was dropped by his record label because he didn't sell enough albums yet people made a huge deal out of him when he was on the show. Where are all his fans now that he needs to sell some albums? I don't like people who are only fans when their team is winning.
This year we have David Archuleta that all the pre-teens are going nuts over. If he sings all of those charity feel good songs that he loves so much, he won't sell any albums either and his fans will forget all about him too. I am not a fan of his either so I don't really care, but when it comes time to buy his album, all of his young fans will just be downloading his songs illegally from Limewire which won't help him out at all. Wow, what devoted fans!
Kelly Clarkson got pretty ******* huge. I'm no fan but I give credit where credit's due.
Taylor Hicks?
yeah all the ones that you dont hear about anymore, didnt have good record sales so the label dropped them all. Which kinda sucks for Taylor Hicks, cuz he is really good, he was my fave that season...its just the cd he came out with, didnt seem like it was him....

Taylor hicks yeah he didn't do hardly anything, I agree it's more of a popularity thing i think i love the show but yeah it's way overrated!!

In my opinion, it's a good 'quick start' to a singing career. Just because you win doesn't mean you'll succeed, and if you don't win doesn't mean you won't succeed. Clay Akin didn't win, but he got record deals and is still performing...Ruben Studdard, the winner? Damifino. Kelly Clarkeson, Carrie Underwood and others went on to stardom. If somebody loses on Idol, they can still have a successful career singing, if they don't give up. I think most of them just give up. They should get a "reality" check. More people have went on to stardom WITHOUT American Idol than WITH it. They just need a good song, a good agent and a lot of faith in themselves.
