Is it just me or has African-American Television died?!

Question: I grew up as a kid in the late 80`s & early 90`s. But i have noticed that over the years it seems to me that Black Tv has kind of died. I grew up with shows in the 80`s like:Gimme a Break,New Attiude,227,Amen,What`s Happening Now,The Cosby Show, A Different World, in the 90`s: Family Matters, Martin, Fresh Prince, In Living Color,Living Single,Sister-Sister, Moesha , The Wanyes Brothers, Parent Hood, Out All Night(patti labelle`s show), Good News,Thea,For your Love etc, and in the early 2000`s: The Parkers,One on One etc. there used to be a time that everyone would try to make it home, to see one of these shows, that i`ve just mention. Now there are shows that i forget that are on. i am not saying that some of the shows in the past weren`t flops, like "the cutz" or "house arrest" or "malcom& eddie" etc. but now TV for us is just sad. I like watching TVone, because they show some of the good shows that used to be on, but that is it. Who out there feels the same way?

Television died. Doesn't matter which race. Shows just aren't that creative anymore. Almost everything has been done, writers can't seem to think of much.
There are barely any good shows left. That's why there are a lot of reality shows now as well. (also due to the writers' strike)

I think its assimilation

Tell me about it! What happened to Eight is Enough, Mork and Mindy, Welcome Back Kotter, The Facts of Life..I could go on and on..Every generations has their own "theme". But good news- BET plays alot of said shows, and Different Strokes is only channel 13- 2 times a day ! "Whatcha talkin' 'bout Willis?"

I grew up around the same time watching those shows and I agree there really isn't much on. I think tv altogether is just dying. Too many reality tv shows and repetitive shows that are trying to recreate the past but are overdoing it. I cant watch BET too much I think it fell and the only channel that shows any good is TVone. Im not much of a tv person to begin with, but it doesn't make it any better when there's nothing on.

I know exactly what you mean...i love that on the CW we have been demoted to sunday nites....i mean really its hard to choose from the cartoon to the black shows sometimes...and i really like the show the game and girlfriends...but now they are just boring.....i wish thursday nites on fox was back when it was martin, living single, and new york undercover..... back in the day when everyone would crowd around the t.v. thursday's at 8pm to watch the cosby's...sit around on sunday's to watch in living color and talk about it the next day...its just said....i wish they were portraying young black professionals like they used to *sniff*sniff*
