Is Dr Who politically incorrect because its not inclusive enough?!

Question: How many black Doctors have there been? or gay assistants for that matter? how many characters with disabilities? are the daleks lesbians? Isn't it about time this programme was made more inclusive so all sectors of the population could more readily identify with it?

Doctor Who is an alien; do we even know if Timelords CAN be black? Moreover, the suggestion that Daleks can be "lesbians" is laughable.

I think Doctor Who contains well-written characters played by talented actors... I'm not sure why their race or sexual orientation needs to be an issue.

That being said, if you'd been watching the series lately, you'd know that Doctor Who has taken strides to being more inclusive. Think about last series - Doctor Who teamed up with the intelligent and capable Martha (black), and frequently encounters the charming and courageous Jack (bisexual). Not to mention - there are visible minorities playing strong characters in several episodes, including New York Story and Blink.

I disagree. Doctor Who is fine the way it is. If you don't like it, don't watch it, but don't force others to view YOUR ideals.

You could say that about any programme. Th Doctor is white! It doesn't mean the show is racist! That's just who he is! The fact that the programme is about aliens from other planets proves that it is considering different cultures!!

Miss Delanne i agree with you.

If you have seen some of the early Doctors, and even Tom Baker, you might just have seen one or two "odd characters out" in the form of "other life form" characters. Keep watching the current episodes, and you'll find the odd "other life-styled" character pop up again. They may just be in approximate proportion to English society, but I doubt it - I've never seen "The Pav at Bri" on Dr. Who.

We not had a black Doctor but he did have his first black Companion Martha Jones only last series and Captain Jack was bisexual as he says he will sleep with anything with a postcode. I don't think The Dalek's are lesbians I don't even think they can love.

So no i dont think Doctor Who is politically incorrect.

I don't think there is a need for any of the things you mentioned. You know as a viewer that the Doctor sees everyone as an equal (except perhaps Daleks) so there is no need to prove that he does. The Doctor is a hero to everyone because he is a truly good person with emotions. Everyone has these emotions, so we can all relate to him. It doesn't matter if any of the assistants are gay, or if the Daleks are lesbians, it has no relevance to the story. It is all about the Doctor and how he saves the universe a countless number of times with various companions.
