For a potential sequel, Kid Nation 2, candidates were required to submit a written application and a three-minute video. To be considered, candidates needed to be between the ages 8 and 15 at the time of application, hold United States citizenship and a passport, and grant the producers the right to conduct a background check. Semi-finalists would travel at their own expense to one of 11 regional interviews, with finalists flown to Los Angeles for the final selection. Applications were due by October 9, 2007. It is not yet known whether a second season of Kid Nation will ever air. According to CBS's spokesman Phil Gonzales, "no final decisions have been made on [Kid Nation] for next year."
