What happend to ray in ER?!
Question: I Know he got his legs amputated and i know how but how did they do it in real life..they could not of cut his legs off in real life just to make a show happen. they cant possible screw his life up just to end the season of a show..but it looked so real

They do it with special effects (obviously). They can either do it physically, by hiding the actor's legs and applying make-up/prosthetics as necessary, or they can do it digitally. To do it digitally, as they did in Forrest Gump, they cover up the actor's legs with blue or green fabric and then "paint" it out in post-production. I think Romano's arm was mostly physical, but I'm not sure about Ray's legs.
