When should the "older folks" on a soap move over for the younger crow!

Question: Wow, people are really coming down hard on this question!!

I think I get what you're saying... The only soap I watch is B&B-- obviously the show's based around Stephanie and Eric Forrester, who've got to be in their 70's (I believe they just had their 50th wedding anniversary)... The show wouldn't be the same without them, and they should be there always... They are an intrigal part of the show. BUT, I could really do without literally seeing either one of them in a sex scene. Of course I don't mind a love story concerning "older folks", and I'm not suggesting that they shouldn't act like they have a sex life--- but we're watching TV for entertainment, and it's not enjoyable actually watching the elderly have sexy time!!

I don't think "older folks" applies to anyone under 65, as far as I'm concerned...

Mo above me thinks people in their 30's are "old codgers"!! :-)

when the 'younger folks' start watching I suspose - - it's all about the ratings

:o)

It seems like the soaps (at least the one i watch) eventually phase them out. Like they move, or they keep showing them less and less and eventually you forget about them. But some of the people are REALLY old. But they dont really have any story lines around them, they are just the younger crowds parents who show up on episodes when the kids need advice.

Define older. My great grand-daughter thinks people who are over 20 should be put out to pasture. When would you decide that they are no longer needed and how will you feel if you should ever reach that age.

Never, I think it should be an equal mix of all generations of the show. Honor history first!

The "older folks" or veterans should not have to move over. They're classics. And there's room for everybody. If they moved over - there'd be no real story. ... Just teenyboppers and young adults who act like tennyboppers.

When should older folks in real life move over to make room for the younger crowd???

I guess I should start packing my bags if that is how life is supposed to work. My time is probably about up.

Why should it be different in tv than it is in real life?

It's because they always have all of the 'old' money.

No. There isn't an age when you shouldn't see the physical "stuff" between older people. All ages of people fall in love everyday and there are going to be "physical" things happening.
Not everyone who watches soaps are 20 years old. There are some old codgers watching them. Like people in their 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's etc.

(I should have put a "ha,ha" after my last sentence. I was being sarcastic about people in their their 30's, 40's, 50's being old codgers. 60's is just the beginning of being "old").

For the physical stuff, I think it's strictly on a case-by-case basis. For example, I never ever want to see Maurice Benard without a shirt on ever again -- the manboobs were eye-searing enough back in 2002, thank you very much. But Nancy Lee Grahn and Sebastian Roche would rock the hell out of a steamy love scene, and they're both older than him. Some people just age better than others, so it's unfair to shut certain actors out of playing certain kinds of scenes just because of their birthdate.

For everything else, on an ideal soap the older generation would never simply "move over" for the next one; there should be interaction among all age groups. People don't just stop living when they turn 40; there's plenty of storylines that could be mined for the older characters to keep them relevent and ensure they'll be around to dispense advice and support for their younger counterparts.
