Question: It wasn't animated, but was a short "news" section that sometimes had a National Geographic feel. I don't remember it lasting a full 1/2 hour, but I could be wrong.

It was "In The News" on CBS (1969-87). These kid-oriented news briefs ran for two minutes between the Saturday morning cartoons and were narrated by the late Christopher Glenn (a CBS News stalwart who did the morninig CBS Radio News roundup for years until his death two years ago; he also hosted "30 Minutes", a half-hour kid-oriented spinoff of "60 Minutes" that ran from 1978-82).
It seems like it was called, In the News. It lasted only a couple minutes.
