Does CBS SUCK?!

Question: Getting rid of a quality show like Jericho. So they could put another cheap reality show.

Answers: Getting rid of a quality show like Jericho. So they could put another cheap reality show.

Honestly? I don't blame CBS for the proliferation of umpteen thousand crime/forensic shows and reality shows. That is the fault of the American public. I'm sorry, but I cannot believe how many people watch Criminal Minds, the CSI's, etc. Not to mention all of the reality junk. Do you know how many millions of Americans watch the horrific and exploitative "Moment of Truth" on Fox? It's sickening.

I would love for networks to keep around quality shows, but if they don't get the ratings (and/or the critical acclaim - at least Friday Night Lights seems to be riding on that for now) then there isn't much the network can do. It's expensive to produce shows, and if the ratings aren't there, then the advertisers won't pay as much. (And, yes, they probably cut ad rates. That is how they got any advertisers at all. It's not like they were charging "American Idol" ad rates or anything.) Plus, serialized shows don't tend to do as well (or command as much money) in syndication as do crime shows and/or comedies, so that is another problem.

I have vowed to never hope for a show's cancellation, because I would hate for other people to be rooting for the cancellation of a show I enjoy, but I just don't understand the popularity of a lot of shows today and think that the television landscape would probably be better off without them. Unfortunately, as long as people watch them, they will keep getting produced and shown. Sigh. I'll stick with my low rated New Amsterdam, Moonlight, Battlestar Galactica, etc. for as long as they can survive. (Which for New Amsterdam is probably not much longer as the audience keeps dwindling.)

they are still better than nbc check their track record

Yes actually they do. I was (sorta) watching something last night (i can't remember) with my grandma and she was reading a banner ad on the TV that said "Jericho : Series Finale" i was reading a book and I was like.. Wtf?

no they don't CBS was losing money with jericho because noboby watched it. they will probably double or triple viewership with whatever reality show they replace it with.

You can watch the old episodes of Jericho on SCI FI channel.

Goes to show you how much television has changed. All studios care about is the bottomline. And if a show doesn't produce a certain amount of ratings then they are quick to remove it.

Makes me think if Seinfeld was starting his show out these days, he wouldn't of lasted half a season.

There's less patience from studios nowadays. Unlike yesteryear when shows were allowed time to grow and gain an audience.

Plus the competition is more fierce due to so many more channels. But that's just the point. Studios need to take into account that's there's so many channels, it's going to be harder to pull in the ratings compared to when there was just a handful of channels.

And maybe studios need to lower their advertising rates or whatever else it may be that's causing them to leak money.

I was happy when Jericho made it's way back after joining the fight to keep it going.

Now with Jericho gone, it's just sad to see a fine show end because it doesn't tickle the checkbooks of the tv executives.

Opens up one more hour for another Big Brother clone or whatever "reality" crap they string together.

So sad.

I agree. Jericho is an awesome show. After the way season 2 ended. The need to do a season 3 now to follow the 2nd American revolution. To CBS I quote Jake & his grandfather in saying, "Nuts!!!"

Jericho has very strong fan base not everyone watches TV there are other ways to watch that don't count and they should. Write Sci Fi and ask them to pick it up it is the only way to get a new season.
