ha yes I know what you mean...I don't want to ruin anything for you if you havent seen it so if you aren't up to the bit where desmond meets Daniel in the past...then cover your ears or eyes.

Anyway Desmond is slipping between two points in time, when he was a soldier in the US army (the past) and when he is on the boat (present). I can't recall if they explained what did that but obviously it must be to do with the island cause the other guy on the boat is experiencing it too. Anyway Daniel (in the island time period) knows what is going on to the extent that he can tell desmond to go see him when he 'slips' into his army time period and give him instructions for using the time machine which he only recently worked out but was trying to work out in the amy time period. Daniel in the army time thinks Desmond is a joke set up by his colleagues but when given the correct instructions (that Daniel from the island period gives Desmond to give to Daniel at that time) he believes and uses it to transport that mouse forward and back in time so that it can run the maze straight away (as it already learnt how in the future before being sent back to the present [in this case the army time period) anyway....Daniel sees the effect on Desmond and realises that he is slipping between these time periods and the ultimate effect will be that he will lose contact with both time periods and die. A boat metaphor helps. Hence he must find an anchor to stay in the island time period (the [resent. He does this by getting his girlfriends phone number when he is in the army time period because he knows that when he slips back into the island time period...however many years later it is, he needs to ring her to us her as his 'anchor'..something familiar to him. It then gets more complicated when Daniel reads in the island time period that Desmond is his 'anchor' for when he is time travelling....ok I'm going to stop because you will get more from the following episodes.

Hmm well hopefully that helped and I didn't confuse you more along the way and yes I often get the feeling they make it up as they go along...but what I know for sure is that no ending can satisfy a series that has been keeping audiences in so much anticipation for all this time

I'm in the UK too but not sure what episode your talking about.Do you know what it is called?

Their is so much going on but its hard to explain without spoiling it for you so ask me again when you see the rest of this season because SOOOOO much more has happened

The episode where Desmond arrives on the boat and keeps jumping back and forth between the past and present is "The Constant".

Let me put it this way. Me and oneof my friends played this drinking game for season 4 episode 3, where each time Lost didnt make, we would take a shot of vodka. That was more a month ago and I was only released fomr hospital yesterday due to my alcahol poisoning. My friend's outlook is bleak. We probably should have stopped after the seventh bottle of vodka.

With all of the flash forwards and flash backs, you better make sure you are wide awake when watching this year. I can say that this year has been pretty solid , as long as the year doesn't end up being one of the castaways dreams.

Basically the whole point of the Constant (in my opinion) is that time travel is possible and that anyone who tries to leave the island and has been exposed to electromagnetic activity like Des was, needs to have a "Constant" to keep themselves in the time they are suppose to be in..and to save themselves from death. So, just keep in mind who was not near the electromagnetic blast, because that may have some bearing on who the Oceanic Six are. Hell, I am still not completely sure they are. Also keep in mind if it's not Penny's Boat like she said, why did Naomi have a picture of Penny and Des when she parachuted on to the island...she had to get it from someone who knows them???

Well, the show's title is LOST. Appropriate.

when desmond is in the helicopter, something happens to him as they approach the boat and he looses his memory.when they get to the boat they get a phone from somebody and call the island and tell jack what's going on. during that time desmond's mind keeps switching from on the island to off the island before his time on the island. its a little bit confusing even im not that great with this science shiit :P. that guy with the facial hair (one of them that was from the boat but arrived in the helicopter and got captured by jack or whatever) talked to desmond about his problem and told desmond that he could find him in the future and he would cure his memory loss. desmond does find that guy but he finds that he isnt much help unless he can visit someone he really cares about. that would cure him. he has to talk to her soon though or else he will die. dont ask me why, i dont know. so he finds his girlfriend penny and she thinks he gone mad, talking about some island. so he gets her phone number so that he can call her from the boat when his mind switches over again so that he dosent die. so when his mind switches back over, he goes up to that little room and calls penny. now he wont die.

i didnt quite understand it either....so this probably wont help that much.
