Why was "The Longest Day" shot in black and white?!


Question: 1962 it was made but we had colour then so perhaps it was to get the real effect of war to make it more dramatic i did have it on until he switched it over to Thunderbirds oh joy not!

perhaps to give it more dramatic effect, i don't now apart from that.

because every film has a budget and maybe this was within the budget or cheaper to make.

Watching now, Gray and white, to do with money i reckon, still a classic.

The studio had almost bankrupted themselves making Cleopatra, and B&W was all they could afford.

I believe it is for dramatic effect. Much like the effect of the use of black and white in Schindler's list which of course was fillmed much later. It gives it that "newsreel" effect. If you recall newsreels that used to be shown in theaters which often contained war news, you will know what I mean.

when you see grey stormy water you know its cold.also hides all the red gunk flying out of bullet wounds.
