Im lost ..well i think the island is a place of sanctuary and Ben is generating alot of money from the island , ! truthfully i think the writers are mad they story lines keep twisting and have me lost with some of the stuff ..
Basically Ben is trying to defend the island from Widmore (Penny's dad) Ben knows how to get on and off the island and is using this knowledge to thwart him The OCEANIC 6 will all realise that they must somehow find a way to return to the island to save their friends. Throw in a bit of time travel and you have one of the most ingenious TV shows of recent years
