Lost fans...any theories about Widmore and why...?!
Question: 1) He wants to find the island first?
2) He would slaughter all the survivors of the flight? Surely, it can't be just be keeping Desmond away from his daughter. That is way too easy and would be a big disappointment if that were true. Desmond was not on the flight, but maybe Widmore must know he is there if Penny does.

My theory is Widmore is sick maybe cancer or something else that he is dying and since Bens people did go back and forth maybe someone met Widmore and spilled the beans about the island being able to cure people and now he is on a quest to get their for the healing and willing to kill anyone that gets in his way and he probably also thinking that if its true and he can heal himself he will also be able to make millions exploiding the healing powers to others just my thoughts
first you have to ask yourself who do you believe? widmore or ben, they both say the other is going to wipe out everyone on the island. the red head chick ( I don't remember her name ) and faraday said ben would use the gas to purge everyone on the island, but ben said widmore is comming here to kill everyone on the island, ben said widmore staged the crash of oceanic flight 815 in the water, but widmore's people on the boat said ben dug up bodies and staged the plane crash. but also remember when micheal tried to set off the bomb, ben called him and told him there are innocent people on board who do not know widmores true plans. so you have ben on one side and widmore on the other and the losties sandwiched between.ben's people will be safe in the sanctuary hatch but the losties don't have a prayer. EDIT: oh I forgot, I think based on the auction that widmore is interested in the black rock and its treasures, but according to ben, widmore is interested in the island itself and he isn't into sharing or is he? according to ben widmore want to make the island into an amusement park( my guess) and invite all the people to see the mysterious island. sorta like in jurrassic park movie same idea anyway. remember what ben told locke " if people would come to see mold on the side of a building that look like the virgin mary, how many would come here just to see you locke? ( remembering that locke was paralyzed before crashing on the island.). so thats my theory anyway.
