Thinking of trying out for American Idol...?!

Question: I'm wondering if I should try out for American Idol next season and I can't decide either way...I have never sung professionally or with a band or anything like that. The only time that I have sung in public was to my wife at our wedding a few years ago, I've had a few folks tell me afterwards to consider a career in it. I sing around the house all the time and my wife tells me I have a really nice voice and the right look (she says I could use a little coaching in some area's but she thinks I'm really good). I totally trust her not to lie to me cause she's a shoot straight from the hip kind of girl - so I'm safe there. And I'm not worried that I will embarass myself or anything like that, I'm just really thinking "wow I'll be buying a plane ticket to some unknown city on a leap of faith". I come from a family of singers (locally of course) and I think I have a gift, but I'm wondering if I'm THAT good to try something like this ? If it were you, would you try it ?

You must do it.

You notice alot of the people who make it onto that show don't expect to get in themselves, and some are shocked when they do. Its all about giving it a go.

If you are really good enough, you'll get in. If your not, then its not your destiny. No big deal. You have alot of other stuff going for you in your life I suppose (seems you and your wife love each other v. much)

And anyway, buy those tickets to that city, and if you dont make it, at least you'll have experienced it, and you'll take back the memories of that little vacation.

This is the opinion of a 15 year old btw =D

I'm not a big fan of verbal abuse.

What do you have to lose? The worst thing that can happen is that they can say "No." One of the worst feelings in the world is to be too old or too this or that to pursue something that you once had the chance to pursue.

Wondering what could have been is not a good for the spirit, my friend. If you seriously have it in your heart and soul to sing then go for it.

I would surely try. I get the same thing from my family members about my voice and it really just depends on if singing is something you actually want to do as a career or if you want confirmation from someone else. If the answer is yes then go for it. I'm not a professional and I'd never sang publicly but I moved yo Las Vegas last year and I made the decision to get involved in things and I went to the radio station to try out for a chance to sing with and meet Chris Brown becuz I really wanted to meet him and figured it was worth a shot. (I didn't win) but you never know if you don't try. GO FOR IT!!!GOOD LUCK.

go give it a shot!! just dont get too upset and make a fool of yourself when they tell you know or criticize your voice, thats what they are there to do.

Good luck!

it's better to try and fail than to NOT try at all =D

I am not to cos I am already am one.The show really sucks especially whenever Paula Abdul talks.Stutters constantly, make no bloody sense, making remarks not relvant to the show or judging.Producers better comes out with a replacement before the ratings goes down and its call her fault.SHe's short and fat and rsally gross when she talks

hmmm. American Idol isn't as they make it out on tv, you don't just wait in a little chair and then you go to the judges. No. you have to go through a LOT of stuff just to make it to the judges. Even then, you have to have an exceptional voice to get on. If you think you can pass through all of this, then go on and try it out! However, you have to think that you really could be the next................AMERICAN IDOL.

If you think you have some talent, then I think you should go for it. What have you got to lose? It would be a neat experience to try out for American Idol even if you don't make it. If I were you, I would go for it. You could be the next American Idol!
