How I Met Your Mother actually doesn't get very high ratings. High enough to justify it staying on the air, but certainly not a huge success like other shows.
As far as sitcoms go, Two and a Half Men has been getting the best ratings week to week for new episodes (averaging something around 15+ million overall viewers), as well as for repeat episodes (10+ million overall viewers). Those are great numbers for a sitcom in a television era ruled by hour long dramas and detestable reality shows like american idol.
