Yes, it is like that on every soap. That is the only way to introduce new charcter and get viewers to like them, If they are connected to someone on the show already thatn people are more likely to give them a chance. Plus, that is where you get all your dramatic story lines. You think it is just someone new but then they have a BIG secret about someone alreay there!
It seems to be that way on every soap. It seems to me that people like the new character more if they already have connections to a current character.
That's lazy writing. They don't want to take the time to develop a new character and slowly show them forming relationships with people in town, so they contrive a connection that gives them an instant friend or family.
