Do Some Soap Fans Have A Problem With Distinguishing Between What Is "Reali!

Question: I work at a Barnes & Noble. I'm sure some of you out there know about this book that came out a few weeks ago called "CHARM!" written by the Kendall Hart character that's actually written by a screen writer of the program.

The other day, these 2 ladies come in to the store I would day maybe in their 40s and they ask about if we have that book. I said yes we do and one of the ladies goes on to say that she can't believe Kendall wrote a book.

I went on to say to them that Kendall is a tv charatcer and neither her nor her actress worte that book. I explained that the book is written by a screen writer of All My Children. ( you see, we're under store policy that we cannot lie to the customers regarding books written by celebrities and what not )

The 2 ladies looked at me horrified and offended. They screamed that I had no idea what I was talking about. One of them ran to get the book and pointed the cover at me saying "see by Kendall Hart!"

We all laugh here at that book now :)

Well, I did in fact already answer a question on this very site, in which I stressed to the questioner that Kendall Hart did not actually write "Charm!" and that the actress playing the role of that name also did not author the book; but, rather, the author is one of the writers of the show ALL MY CHILDREN.

I think there are many individuals out there in general who have difficulty distinguishing fact from fiction and reality from fantasy: This sort of thinking is exactly why soap opera stars are often stalked; and exactly why some delusional viewers actually believe they are living in places such as the "Pine Valley" setting town featured on ALL MY CHILDREN.

In a way: You have been spared, for if the book had been purportedly "by Erica Kane", you would have had in all likelihood a lot more to contend with at your store than questions from a single pair of ladies.

some people take the show FAR too seriously...like an incident were a girl was treated badly at a meet and greet because fans did not like her character....so yes, some people do! lol

Some people are just crazy & stupid. I am an AMC fan, but am well aware that Kendall Hart/Alicia Minshew did not write that book. I guess some people get too into it. They're probably the same people that still believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy -- LOL

I cant fathom the (mostly) female fascination with these idiotic shows. I think people allow their lives to become so dull and boring that they project themselves into soaps to somehow escape the banality of their own lives. I think soap fans should ask themselves occasionally, what do i gain from watching this?

For sure, some do. I've heard stories where fans have walked up to an actress who played a not so nice character and slapped them. I think for some people, these shows are their lives. Maybe their own lives are so depressing that this is their escape.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I saw Susan Lucci in a restaurant in NYC and a woman went up to her and screamed at her as though she were Erica. Susan was so gracious.

Definately some fans do ! They go up to these actors and actresses as if their character were the real deal. Think of how that makes the actor feel. Lighten up people it's only tv.

You know, maybe those ladies were laughing at your explaining that it was written by a fictional character... Of course it was. Maybe they were making a joke of the situation to be silly, and now they tell their friends about the salesperson at Barnes & Noble who wanted to make sure they knew that the book wasn't actually written by a Kendall Hart, a fictional TV character... So maybe the joke was on you.

Maybe I'm wrong, but maybe not.

Also, soap fans do tend to talk about their favorite characters like they're real, but of course we know they're not. It's just something fun to gossip about. It's silliness, and I'm sure (at least) most of us know it.

You shouldn't even waste your time with ignorant people like that. I can't believe the one even showed you the book and said "see by kendall Hart". lol too funny

Nothing is true everthing is permitted.

<<That is a funny story,,,,but unless you are a soap watcher, You will never understand<<<I am not being mean just honst<<I have often wondered myself >>>>I have characters on my soaps that I hate ,,,and really think that if I saw them in person, would want to either yell at them or even hit them<<<NOW how odd is that???
I cant tell you why we get so into our soap characters and think that they are real,,((and we are not stupid people as most non soap watchers think))<<we just get too much into their characters ,,which is good because that means that they can act!!!

That's a soap-fan stereotype, and unfortunately it's a few people who give the majority of us a bad name. Rest assured, almost everyone knows the difference between fictional characters and their portrayers.
