Two reasons. 1) Tyra and the other judges initially select people that are so unique that the general population doesn't deem them to be attractive. 2) Lately, all the contestants are idiots who want to be on television. Remember even Maury Povich started off as a decent talk show and somehow segued into "Who's the Baby's Daddy part 1,907". The judges need to do a better job of selecting competitors. Girls that actually want to model, not just be on tv and cause drama. Plus, I think (according to Adrianne Curry) the fine print of those contracts are more like a "first-look" deal rather than a full-fledged deal with these companies. They don't learn practical modeling experience and aren't 100% prepared for the industry. I don't remember the last time I saw Naomi and Gisele modeling raw meat thongs. Adrianne is all about self-promotion, which is probably why she's the only one we still see. Plus, she went and married Peter Brady lol.
I seriously think those shows are all an act. They make it seem like if you win any of those model shows you will be a super model the next day. It takes alot more work then that. I think only if your truly good at it then winning next top model is just a step. I surely havent seen anything really about the winners, besides a covergirl mag ad

perez hilton had a ch1 special earlier this week about reality stars and miss jay was one of the people he interviewed. perez hilton asked the same question and miss jay said when they win, they become lazy and don't want to work. that is the time you really need to work the hardest!!

in interviews with past contestants, a lot of them say they have gone to modeling agencies trying to get representation and the agents say, hey your are so-and-so from antm. they feel they get automatically dismissed because they were on the show!
You are not looking in the right places or reading the right magazines. I work in NYC and I work i the same building as Elite Models and I see Caridee (cycle 7), Jaslyne (cycle 8) ad Salesha (cycle 8) regularly. I have even spoken to them. In Cosmo (April) Eva (Cycle 3) and Caridee both had spreads. Yvonna (cycle 2) is the only one you really wont see becuase she is overseas hosting a fashion style type show. The only one I havent seen is Nicole (cycle 5) and Dni (cycle 6)
umm hunny do your research dani resigned with cover girl and yaya is huge she has been in serval movies and is big with modeling urban style clothing, joanie has been doing a good bit too
Kahlen the runner up from season 4 was also doing really well. She signed as Fendi's number one girl
Many of the girls on the show do go on model, but none are supermodels, no. I'm not sure the show teaches them anything about the real modeling world.
