Who misses the American family sitcoms?!

Question: Just a general question. Every night my hubby and I sit down to watch tv in between mommy and daddy duties and we can not find a thing worth watching. We were just discussing what it was like growning up with TONS of great family sitcoms on the television. Now, the showtime schedules are filled with nothing but reality shows with an occassional NYPD (and police stories with big time topics.) Nothing light and airy or fun for the whole family...

My question to you is... Do you miss these sitcoms? Which ones do you love and remember growing up?

i wish they would bring back "family "shows and the world wonders why kids get so violent there is nothing good for them to watch...and hell i pay so much for cable disney and nick could show more than one show a week...
i used to watch happy days, brady bunch, puff nstuff, family affair and so on..come on America smarten up, if they dont want to bring back the family shows maybe nick at night could come on earlier so my kids could enjoy tool time and goerge lopez ect.

I hate all the reality shows now...there are just too many! i remember watching nash bridges and chuck norris...i cant remember what the shows were called.

Absolutely.

I won't even suggest that you go look at Disney Channel.

and there are all these stupid Reality shows on now. Does anyone CARE what celebrity is dancing?

yes, i do miss them!!

i really wish me and my hib could sit down and watch tv as a family, but there just isnt a lot of family friendly shows on now..

some of my best memories growin up were curlin up with mom and dad on the couch and watchin alf... or day by day and the golden girls. the cosby show was great! and so was the wonder years... good times!

I agree. There were some junk sitcoms along the way. But when they were good, they were treasures. They balanced the funny moments with genuinely tender human moments.

Peace

Yes I do- Happy Days and the Cosby show!

The only reality shows I like are things like history channel stuff, occasionally pbs, disovery channel. I do, however like heroes and jericho

Yeah I miss them. But there are still plenty of other good shows to be watching, like CSI Miami, ER, Greys Anatomy, Samantha Who?, Heroes (when it comes back on), Lost, and American Idol.

Yeah I do, cause I'm really sick of reality shows that are more fake than the sitcoms they replaced. The only reason they're on is because they're cheaper to make.

Shows like the Cosby Show I miss, it was good clean humor. Now I watch history channel or discovery or the fiance and I will play video games together. Reality TV to me is about watching people live their lives. I'm not going to watch people sing or dance, I'll go out with my fiance and we'll sing or dance together, and when we have kids we will sing and dance at home with the kids.

Family Ties too.

AMEN!!!!

Reality tv just explains what's wrong with this country, lol. Oooh, look at Cartoon Network and you'll freak! Such trash!!!!

I have to admit though that hubby and I enjoy most of the CBS line up on Mondays. They are not the family sitcoms of the past and I agree the subject matter is typically more than I'd care for my child to try to understand but they are funny without being completely vulgar. I'm so sick of all of the crime scene, lawyer types of shows.

I grew up with things like Full House, My two dad's, Who's the Boss, Step by Step, Growing Pains, Family Ties, & Home Improvement.

I just have on other rant to add this. Nick at Nite is now crap! Shows that are barely even off the air (George Lopez) ?!?!?! Puh-lease!!! Bring back Donna Reed, My Three Sons, Mr Ed, etc, etc, etc.....

I never watched them, not really. I do recall watching MASH, but that's about it. I always preferred dramas, even as a child. I was a big fan of Masterpiece Theater because I loved the serialized dramas. When I was 7 or 8 I wanted to grow up to be British.

I dare love my reality but I say your right too!

Where are the good, funny and clean sitcoms of yesteryear?

They squeezed in a ton of jokes and sometime a good moral message...I loved Happy Day's , Lavern and Shirley, Growing Pains, Facts of Life, Step by step, Cheers, Three's Company !
