CSI terminology question ?!
Question: 1)When investigating a serial killer's case , CSIs often refer to the way the victim has been killed as an MO (I'm not sure I spelled it correctly). What is this ? Is it an actual english word or an abbreviation , and if so , what do the letters stand for?
2)When they find a dead body , they use a specific code (I think it's 419) why do they do this ?
3) Does DOA (in CSI) stand for Dead On Arrival ?
4) Do you know where I can find general terminology on this subject ?

1) MO - modus operandi (as everyone above said) or "mode of operation" (in English vs. Latin)

2) That is a radio/scanner code. It is how they communicate over their radios - each crime has its own code. Are you sure it is a 419? That one doesn't seem to exist. Anyway, here is a list of police radio and scanner codes. (The scanner ones, which I think are the ones you'd be most likely to hear, are on the right, partway down.)

1. MO stands for Motus Operandi= a latin term which means "mode of operation", aka how the crime was committed.
2. 419 is the police code for "dead human body" (see wikipedia- search for police codes)
3. DOA stands for Dead on Arrival
4. I'm not sure where you can find more information, but do an internet search on forensics
