u know, that some thing becomes a legend because they are so good, and they quit while they are ahead. i agree that friends is probably the best tv show ever, but if it just kept on and on without any fresh new ideas, people will loose interest, and once the show is over, people wont bother watching it again and again.
stopping when you are ahead, leaves you a good memory and wanting to watch it again. look what happens to the tv show called "joey" its the story about joey moving to Hollywood. OK joey is funny, but the rest sucks, and the whole story is so boring, and it makes you comparing to the good old "friends", and thinking how much better friends was.
The show could have gone on, but the main reason for it ending was the greed of the cast. As with most successful shows, the stars heads got too big and they started making more & more demands.
The producers did not want to shell out $9,000,000 a season on just the stars salaries. If only they all remembered how hard they were struggling before Friends came along.
No, it needed to end. The storylines were getting ridiculous and there's only so far you can take a sitcom and characters like that.
It ended because the stars were ready to move on and do other things with their careers. They had wanted to end it a year before, but NBC convinced them to come back for a 10th season.
Debbie is right the show ended because the star wanted to move on and do other things after the 9th season, but they made a deal with NBC to come back and do one more season.
A show can only go on for so long before they run out of ideas. I think it ended at the perfect point. Better to stop when you are ahead, then go on and get cancelled.
I agree they should have kept it going longer, but at the same time you have to wonder would the actors heart really be in it. All the actors on this show were in the prime, don't you think after a considerable amount of time they would just feel jaded? And on top of that you don't won't to be know as a character on a show.
