I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but i'm going to assume you want to know what happend in the season finale. Basically, Mr. Monk got a lead on the man who he belived killed his wife. When he went to confront the man, someone shot and killed him. Although monk had his gun out, he was not the one who killed the guy. Monk was arrested for the murder, but escaped and was on the run. in order for Monk to be able to solve the case, he needed to have the police stop chasing him. the Capt. and Mr. Monk staged his death in order that he would be free. Then monk discovered that the man who was really the murderer was the head cop who had been in charge of arresting him. He also discovered that that man was working for "the whale" (the big fat guy who's in prison, he's been in other episodes) In the end, it comes out that "the whale" had wanted Monk in prison, so he would know what it felt like, and there was also some plot to kill the governer of california, but I don't really remember exactly what happened with that. In answer to your specific question, yes, he ended up killing the 6-fingered man, but we found out that the guy had been hired to kill trudy, so Monk still has no idea why she was killed or who's idea it was.
he still does not know who killed his wife.. in one episode when he went to new york he met up with the person who planted the bomb in her car (he was dying in hospital) but he didn't tell who had hired him to plant the bomb.

Monk did not kill his wife, we do not know who killed his wife. Throughout the show we have been given hints as to what happened, but no answers. What we know is that the bomb was set for Monk, but him Brother asked Trudy, Monk's wife to get cough medicine and the bomb went off. On a trip to NY Monk started to get some info from one of the people involved, currently in jail,, but he died before he could get all the info. We have now been lead back to Dale the Whale, currently in Jail, who we now know had something to do with Trudy's death, as he hates Monk. To be cont....
