Smallville last night 3/13/08: is TV becoming all one big commercial or what?!

Question: Product placement was taken to a new level with the show filmed in the factory of its advertiser. Ingenious, instead of placing the product in the show, put the show in the product.

Oh I agree! It was ridiculous! Smallville promotes the heck out of Toyota. ...I swear if I had a dollar for every time Chloe says "my Yaris" and with Clark and his Toyota truck. And now with the stupid Stride gum. It's enough to make me NOT buy the product just based on the fact that they're shoving it in my face!

oh thank god you brought this up. I though I was the only one that noticed that while I was watching it. They did nothing but advertise for One Republic and whatever gum Pete was chewing. I wasn't even paying attention. it's sad and disgusting they had to resort to that. The show is good without it. Everywhere you look it's an advertisement trying to get us to buy something that we probably don't even need or want. And what's even worst is that we have no control in this.

I agree. There seems to be no limit to the methods used by the Madison Avenue advertising executives to control the latest generation of consumers.
