Well, where i'm from in the US its a very common thing to say. Someone would have said that and we think of it as the exact same thing as BE QUIET or whatever. So yeah- My side of the Us thinks its perfectly normal. But then again Simon has a bad reputation and anything he says everyone thinks of it in the worst way possible....

yes, it is rude in the US but simon is the one the makes the show worth watching. he also seems to have the best knowledge of talent. i dont think i would watch it if he wasnt on the show. he always has some funny sh*t to say

no its not she is just high and on crack ok? lmfao!!!!! xoxo Kat

Yeah, shut up is pretty rude. But then again, Simon is rude...so I'm not sure why everyone is shocked. I like him, though because he's honest. He does, however, need to come up with some new terms other than "cabaret", "karaoke", and the like.

No way. We tell people to shut up all of the time. Kids say it to their parents. To be honest, it is totally rude and disrespectful but if you are close to the person you say it to it will probably not be a big deal.

Yes it is rude to a certain extent because everyone has their own opinion and he shoudlnt tell people to shut up for not agreeing with him. People dont take it seriously from Simon because Simon is Simon and he is the person who makes the show worth watching. I did however respect Simon for saying that he felt their was more talent here then England. Even even he didnt really mean it he knows he works and thats in America so he played it smart( :

I think the audience boos Simon every chance they get, but I love him.

In our home it is forbidden to tell anyone to shut up. We learn courtesy and good manners. Our children are considerate and polite and well thought of. We require that they respect us and others. We have zero tolerance for rude and crude behavior and talk. It's a nice home to live in, believe me.

No, saying shut up is not offensive. Simon just has a very bad reputation when it comes to judging. He's known as the "bad judge" because of his constant criticism. Booing him probably had a little to do with saying shut up, because he's the critic of everyone. Shut up isn't disrepective unless it's to someone above you in authority.

I with Margret H on this one.

This is not tolerated in my home. I feel it is disrespectful ... but on the other hand Paula interrupting Simon all the time is very rude too. She had her chance(s) to talk so should he even if she doesn't agree.

Respecting others is important.
