Why Dont Americans Understand British Humour?!

Question: Why? =)

Answers: Why? =)

It's the thinking man's humor, the pace is much quicker than American humor. I love British television, the sexual content is a little high, but I let me teenage son watch BBC before any American shows, because the make fun of how awkward sex is and also don't glamorize it like the US does. The most important thing about their television is that they have REAL looking people on their shows. Not unrealistically beautiful people.

I'm not sure. But Australians understand both :)

We understand British humor; it's just a lot drier than American humor which tends to be more simplistic.

The British are the funniest people on earth. they are quick witted, use intelligent humour & i think their accents help. Americans like slap stick crap & generally don't get humour unless it's their own. Seinfeld & Robin Williams are great tho.

Americans want everything right now and dont want to have to think about it. It reflects in their comedy, drama, architecture, literature, language and pop music. I am American with a Brit sense of humor. Its not easy.

British humour tends to be 'slow burning' and a bit darker than American humour, I don't think it's true that they don't understand it, I think they just can't be bothered to wait for the pay off. Also they tend to be more PC, can you imagine the uproar if 'Brass Eye' had been American?

I find 'Frazier' and 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' very funny. That said I watched 'Idiocracy' the other day and just did not get it at all.

What's the question? Are you inferring Americans don't have a sense of humour. There are plenty of Americans that indeed will 'lol' (as it were) to Brit. comics - Lenny Henry notwithstanding.
Know many Brits who don't understand British humour - and so, what would you call them, Americans, miserable bastards or snarly oldies...and here's a beast - what if they piss themselves at German humour? There are different SORTS of humour...from intellectual to downright childish. Is it not how you feel at the time.
Still can't hack Monty Python's Flying circus - but will never get rid of my Bremner, Bird and Fortune collection! Different strokes for different folks - and don't be fooled. Americans know what the craic is! And that nonsense about thought is cliched...is there anyone in Britain like Lenny Bruce or even Richard Pryor - who made you think? Methinks when these questions are asked, maybe the person who asks has that teensy-weensy bit of envy.

American humor is in your face dont have to think about it humor. British humor is more witty and requires a little thought

Well let us change that because I enjoy british comedy. Its not all americans just some. This is a "i want it all and i want it now" country. Therefore no one wants to wait for the punch line to build. Its just a matter a person; and if anyone has anything bad to say then you can all goto bloody hell!! lol

i think because stereotypically, brits are renowned for their wit and sarcasm... something which americans dont seem to do as much... its only the same as how some brits dont find american humour funny; some think its too obvious and lacks something which ours has... its just the differences between us!!
