Do you think Simon's bashing of contestants keep them on the show?!
Question: It seems everytime he really lets someone have it they wind up not even being in the bottom three. I think he underestimates the value of the pity vote that he is giving to the contestant he is bashing. Last night he gave Kristy Lee Cook such a hard time that I am guessing she won't even be in the bottom three, and if he would have just kept his mouth shut she would probably just go home. This happens every year with him. You would think he would just learn not to say anything if he really thought someone should go home.

I don't think it is the pity vote as much as it motivates people to vote for who they like and who they think are in danger of getting voted off.
For example: I like David Cook and Ramiele Malubay. David Cook did a great job and got praise from the judges while Ramiele didn't have a very good night. While I like them both, I voted a lot more for Rami because I felt like she needed my votes a lot more than David did.
I don't really believe that afects the contestants at all but thats just me i guess
You realize there is a group that exclusively votes for the worst contestant every week, right?
Well, it has been thought that many times when Simon applauds a contestant's performance, they end up being eliminated. So, the reverse can probably be hypothesized. I haven't watch this season that much really though, but I know understand what you mean.
I understand what you mean, but it doesn't happen with every contestant, every time. There are times when those he bashes receive the least votes, as well.
I always thought he does it on purpose so they will get the pity votes. I think he knows how it will manipulate people to give the good singers the pity votes.
two words..constructive critsacism. at least they don't seam to take it too personally. u don't have to agree with it. i think it keeps things grounded.
