Is it true that Carly Smithson blamed 9/11 on her previous musical failure?!

Question: I read that she said this before when she was asked why her previous record didn't make it:
“It was gaining traction, she said, but then 9/11 happened and “nobody was interested in shopping a new record.”

If that's true then it's not just a lie because other good artists/bands made it just fine that month, but I think it's dumb and bad taste to use 9/11 for an excuse... she was probably just not that good...

It seems the answer is yes. Below is a link to the interview - it doesn't quote her directly, but does claim she said that.

It isn't true, incidentally. The first single from that album died in January 2001. The second was released in October.

idk but that would be dumb and bad taste, not to mention extremely conceited

It's not true. Mariah Carey (my favorite female singer) used the same excuse for Glitter. Carly Smithson claimed "that her single may have been affected by is release close to 9/11". Her album was released in November. Please research before making accusations.
