they may have invested what they earned. or just gave up on show business as a career and took up some other profession. because of their "celebrity" you may see them now and again on reunion shows (or TV Land!!)

some probably do get royalties, but i think that's only if it was written into their contracts.

They get money every time a segment airs with them in it. My dad did some commercials when I was a kid and got checks in the mail every time one would air. That went on for years.

they get royality checks for many years after a show is canceled and when the show goes into re-runs or syndication, they get paid some more.. but they also look good years later because they still work, you cant assume that just because they had a tv show in the 70's they'll never do another tv show.. take your example One Day at a Time, Valerie Bertinelli was on Touched by an Angel and has had other work as well..

there is stage plays and theatre, commericals, or working behind the scenes, like Ron Howard or Penny Marshall..
just because you dont see them on TV doesnt mean they arent still working...
