What'd you think of the series finale of The Wire?!

Question: Before I get to my opinion, I would like to say that The Wire is definitely one of my favourite shows on TV. That said, I was disappointed with the finale. Unlike The Wire finales in the past, they left a lot of stories open and it just seemed like there was not much closure. They went with a "out with the old, in with the new" approach. I guess if anything, it meant that street life is cyclicle. The players change but the game stays the same.

Marlo is the new Stringer, Michael is the new Omar (shotgun and all), Chris is the new Wee-Bey, Dukie is the new Bubbs, Carver is the new Daniels and Slim is the new Avon/Marlo?

Although I can see why it ended the way it did, I would much rather see Michael popping Marlo.

All in all, I wasn't a big fan of the fifth and final season as a whole. I thought the newspaper sub-story was lame and that the way Omar went out didn't do him any justice. The finale also left too many open ends in a series that have capitivated us for 5 seasons. Overall I give it a 6/10 in a show that usually gets 9s or 10s.

haven't watched it yet. it's on dvr.

It was kinda weak, it took forever for the plot to start thickening, and the story were drawn on too long. A dissapointment from last season's finale.

5 out of 10

I agree with everyone, to a certain extent. However, I must say, I am sad to see the show go. It gave me something to look forward to on Sunday nights. HBO doesn't have anything else I would care to get involved with like The Wire, Sex in the City, Deadwood or The Sopranos. The only thing left I would care to see is Big Love....

I am glad The Wire didn't go out without have some of my favorite people give some great quotes:

Rawls - "You are close to a "c*nt's hair from being fired"
Daniels - "To be continued..."
Michael - "And that's your knee"

The writers wanted to sum everything up for us and to be honest, they did a good job of that. In my sadness, I am happy. But the show will definitely be missed.
