Does anybody else think New Amsterdam is a total copy of Moonlight?!

Question: it has so many different things in common its annoying. they shouldnt be copying other shows. First thing the same, hes immortal and a detective. second hes looking to fall in love. the only thing they havent copied is that hes not a vampire, but tonight on the series premire they did mention something about vampires and how they could not stand to look in the mirror because everything around them is changing except the reflection. And on the scenes from the next episode they said that chopping his head off would be one of the only ways to kill him. They also have him roaming the town late at night just like Mick does on Moonlight.
im just really annoyed and im venting, they shouldnt copy Moonlight!!! anybody have same thoughts?

Well miss, you know I am a devout Moonlight fan. Diehard is more like it. Near tattooing it all over my body. I also promise if my friend knows Alex I will send you a message on here and take you with me to meet him. Hahahaha.

Here's the deal. I loved New Amsterdam. There are similarities. Maybe that is why I liked it. I think Moonlight is better but Amsterdam is very good.

The thing with tv today is no one can be original. Moonlight has its similarities to shows like Bloodties and Angel (then again what else can you do with a vampire show right? the improvement there is they cut out the supernatural and stuck with Anne Rice's noir feel.) With Amsterdam they just cut out the vampire and added a twist. Finding true love doesn't just bring him happiness...it brings him death. While both characters long for it...it is different in that Amsterdam is in a way cursed to find the one woman to love that is the whole purpose of his living this long. Moonlight finding true love will bring happiness but doesn't necessarily turn him mortal. He was cursed because he found love and now he has chosen to find true love with the one...it is just coincidental that he had to live this long to find it. There was an episode of Bloodties where this boy and girl hopscotched through time searching for one another and everytime they were reincarnated and found each other they died to do it again. Until modern medicine ended the cycle. So in away that ideal was copied by both of the discussed shows.

This is just the way things are happening. Writer's after all this drama can not be original. Instead they see someone else's idea and see how they would do it and try to improve on it. I am with you though...it is time for an original idea!!! WRITER'S YOUR STRIKE WAS WORTHLESS IF YOU CAN NOT THINK UP SOMETHING ON YOUR OWN!!! Seems the only original ideas out there right now are coming from Reality show producers...that's sad.

I love Moonlight. I enjoy New Amsterdam. I was not at all impressed with Bloodties or Angel...boring!

I definately did not come up with Highlander...OMG what a great comparison! Amsterdam is the new Highlander...hahaha. that's funny. How did I not think of that I loved Highlander!

Was Dark Knight a good show... I never saw it but I used to watch Dark Shadows....great soap opera.

Girlie, we will debate this with Alex when I get ahold of him. Hahahaha.

I so don't think it is a total copy of Moonlight. In fact, I think Moonlight is a closer copy of the old show "Forever Knight" than New Amsterdam is a copy of Moonlight.

Yes, they are both immortal, but the reasons for it are completely different. Plus, the "cures" are different. Also, their reactions to the immortality are different. The hero in New Amsterdam (sorry, I watched it from a DVD screener a long time ago and don't remember his name) seems more bored with it. Bored with having eternal life and just wants it to end. While Mick thinks his situation is a complete curse, not just the immortality, but every aspect of being a vampire.

Regarding the head cutting off being the only way to kill them thing, it makes logical sense that immortals would not be able to heal that injury. It was the entire basis for the "Highlander" universe.

And roaming around late at night is a standard dramatic device for showing a loner at odds with the universe. Heck, just look at all of the brooding that Duncan of Highlander and Angel from Angel do, just to name two.

And, seriously? You think they are copies because they are both detectives? Do you realize how many detective shows are out there right now?

Honestly, I love Moonlight, but it really is the wrong show to be using as an example for complete originality and as a basis for complaints about copying. Just as there is room for vampire shows such as Moonlight, Angel, and Forever Knight to co-exist, there is room for different shows about immortals such as Moonlight, Highlander, and New Amsterdam to exist.
